Oak Lawn Community High School has a proud wrestling tradition extending back to the school’s earliest years. Guided during its formative era by IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Elias George, the Spartans twice finished as IHSA team state runners-up—in 1959 and again in 1974—and have produced numerous individual state qualifiers, place winners and State Champions over more than seven decades of competition. The program’s distinguished alumni include IWCOA Hall of Famer Ken Houston and National Wrestling Hall of Fame honoree Ron Oglesby, both of whom carried the lessons learned at Oak Lawn into decades of service to the sport. Today, the Spartans continue building upon that foundation through their boys’ program and a growing girls’ program that is already producing conference champions and school-record-setting performances. From its historic state-trophy teams to the young wrestlers representing Oak Lawn today, Spartan wrestling remains rooted in determination, discipline and community pride. The Oak Lawn Wrestling Club is honored to support the Spartans and help prepare the next generation to carry this tradition forward.
